What is CairoCHI?
CairoCHI (كايروكاي) is the first local SIGCHI chapter in Egypt. SIGCHI is an international organization made up of roughly 3000 academics who work to create better designed information interactive products. It is a part of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), which is the world’s leading educational and scientific computing society. As a major force in advancing the skills and knowledge of information technology professionals and students since 1947, ACM offers its 75,000 members a variety of forums to fulfill their needs. These include online training courses; world-class journals and magazines; numerous conferences, tutorials, and workshops; special interest groups in 35 distinct areas of information technology; local and regional groups and chapters; electronic forums; and the ACM Portal, all of which make ACM the resource for lifelong learning in the rapidly changing field.
CHI in CairoCHI is short for Computer-Human Interaction (or Human-Computer Interaction), which is defined by ACM as a discipline concerned with the design, evaluation and implementation of interactive computing systems for human use and with the study of major phenomena surrounding them.
